Reflection
In my first year of teaching i hopefully will have more knowledge than i do now. I know i will always need to make a conscious effort to stay on top on technology because it is always changing. Not only will i be doing research to expand my knowledge but i think i will also be learning from my students. There should be a mutual exchange of knowledge because this technology will be all that they know and will likely be more familiar with it than i am. The knowledge base of the students is based mainly upon their exposure. So even if they are from the same time period if they are never exposed to it they will have little knowledge. I will try to incorporate both technology as well as tradition texts into the classroom. If technology is limited i will do my best to supplement what i have. In the classroom i can use skype to connect with students from around the world, use blogs, google docs and networking sites to connect with students and parents outside the classroom. Although 21st century skills are expanding and technology seems to be taking over, there will always be a need for human interaction. Not everything can be done online or using an electronic device. When learning how to ride a bike or play a sport it is always best to try to get out there and actually try it. I am eager to see what technology has in store for the future and how it will be implemented in the classroom!
Transcript:I do agree with Prenski in some aspects. I do think that in order to successfully reach the digital native we do need to speak their language so to speak. We need to connect with them on their level. I do think that there is always room for collaboration between technology and tradition learning and, as a teacher it is your responsibilty to find the sweet spot in the middle.
